Abstract: The article examines the involvement of Kotel residents in the financing and printing of the first book in Bulgarian language that promoted hygiene and a healthy lifestyle. The book was titled ‘Igionomiya’ and was prepared by а young teacher Sava Dobroplodni in Kotel. It was translated from Greek and was printed in 1846 in Istanbul. The names of the benefactors were listed at the end of the book. From Kotel there were 284. The social profile of sponsors is analyzed in the article: the students are 42.9%; the Hajjis and their heirs are 26.4%; craftsmen are only 7.7%; Teachers – 1.7%; and others – 23%. The main conclusion is that the disciples and the Hajjis were the most active benefactors who helped disseminate useful knowledge about the human body and its good health.
