Abstract: The study aims to highlight the otherness of 10th-century Hungarian nomads by analyzing a series of medieval chronicles whose authors are leading Western clerics. Our objective is to outline the image of nomads through the filter of the works of European Christian historians. In our approach, we started with two research inquiries: How were the Hungarian migrants seen by Western Europeans? What was the impact of the emergence of the Hungarian warriors among the native populations? We propose to investigate written sources, such as chronicles, and annals, and to analyze by comparison the obtained results. Therefore, we first turned to discourse analysis, applied to the historical sources selected for the present investigation. At the same time, we aim to identify as many descriptions of Hungarians as possible, which would highlight the viewpoint of Western Europeans towards the attitudes and behaviors of the nomads settled in the Carpathian Basin.
